Welcome to the Machine Tool Technology, CNC and Tool & Die Program Website at North Georgia Technical College where students learn to use machine tools, such as lathes, milling machines, grinders, CNC machining centers, CNC turning centers and CNC Wire Cut EDM. Because the technology of machining is changing rapidly, machinist must learn to operate a wide range of machines including machines that cut metal with lasers, water jets, or electrified wires.

Tool and die makers are among the most highly skilled workers in manufacturing. These workers produce tools, dies, and special jig and fixtures that enable machines to manufacture a variety of products we use daily. To perform these functions, tool and die makers employ many types of machine tools and precision measuring instruments. They also must be familiar with the machining properties, such as hardness and heat tolerance, of a wide variety of metals, alloys, carbides, and other composite materials. As a result, tool and die makers are knowledgeable in machining operations, mathematics, Metallurgy, and blueprint reading.
