The environment is facing increasing
impact from a rapidly growing society. Land development,
human consumption and a growing increase in pollution
have increased the seriousness of environmental protection.
To address these issues, North Georgia Technical College
offers an integrated environmental science program that
directly correlates with current trends in environmentally
related professions.
A key component of the Environmental Technology Program
is the opportunity to work closely with professors as
well as with professionals from the community. Students
are directly engaged in research projects that are funded
through grants from state and federal agencies. These
projects are intertwined with the Environmental Technology
curricula. Students have the opportunity to present
data collected from their research projects at conferences
across the state. Students are also encouraged to be
creative when it comes to solving specific environmentally
related problems that directly impact our community.
Students in the past were able to secure a state allocated
grant to support a recycling program on campus. Right
now, Environmental Technology students are engaged in
a collaborative effort with SORBA (Southern Off Road
Bicycle Association) in building a multi-use low impact
trail system that meanders through campus. This trail
system will have a considerable positive impact for
both, the college as well as our community.
