III. U. 7. Staff Development

Records of individual staff development plans and documentation of the completion of such plans are maintained in the office of the appropriate vice president.

Staff development shall be evaluated as necessary; this evaluation shall form the basis for an annual staff development plan reflecting the individual employee's needs for professional improvement activities.  Such activities include college courses, state or local staff development, industry schools, workshops or seminars, planned business/industry update activities, or other organized and structured activities that update or enhance competencies.

Full-time professional employees, including faculty members, shall complete a minimum of 80 hours of staff development yearly; and all other employees shall complete a minimum of 40 hours of staff development yearly.  The minimum number of staff development programs scheduled by the President or designee require attendance of selected or all NGTC personnel.  Existing staff development plans shall be amended accordingly.

A staff development plan for newly-employed full-time faculty members should focus on developing teaching competencies.  Plans for experienced instructors should focus on occupational updating.  Contract renewal or continued employment may be contingent upon satisfactory completion of planned staff development.

If the planned staff development is not satisfactorily completed, the President may, at his/her discretion, grant an extended period of time (up to one year) for completion of the plan.
