Professional Development Courses

Professional Development courses offered by all GYSTC centers are free, unless otherwise noted, to teachers and parapros employed by our member school systems of Banks, Franklin, Gainesville City, Habersham, Hart, Rabun, Stephens, Towns, Union, and White counties.  Teachers from non-member systems or not currently employed by a school system can enroll in our courses on a space-available basis for an additional $75/PLU credit.

Grades: 6-8

Dates:  July 28 & 29, 2005

Times:  9:00am - 3:00pm

Location:  Pioneer RESA, Cleveland, GA

Cost:  Only available to member school systems - no cost

Participants will receive training on the GYSTC publication of the Sixth Grade Earth Science GPS completely unpacked for all the standards based on the Understanding by Design framework (also applicable to Learner Focus Schools):  Desired Outcomes, Goals, Enduring Understandings, Essential Questions, What students will know, What students will be able to do, Performance Tasks, Rubrics and Self Evaluations, Plan of Action – Learning Activities, Additional Resources, Background Information, Complete worksheets for activities.  A minimum of 10 participants required to run the course.  This course is only open to NEGYSTC member school system teachers (Banks, Franklin, Gainesville City, Habersham, Hart, Rabun, Stephens, Towns, Union, and White).

 

Healthy Water, Healthy People

Participants will become Adopt-A-Stream (AAS) trainers and Healthy Water, Healthy People facilitators.  Participants will receive the Healthy Water, Healthy People Educators Guide and Testing Kit Manual, a facilitator handbook, the AAS Train-The-Trainer handbook, all AAS publications, plenty of networking opportunities, as well as PLU credit.

 

Costa Rica:  A Touch of the Tropics
