Accel Program
The Accel
program is for high school students at least age 16 who are
classified as a junior or senior at an accredited Georgia public or private high
school. This program allows for students to be enrolled in
college degree-level courses rather than postsecondary
coursework toward technical certificate or diploma programs.
Students
enrolled in the Accel Program degree-level courses during
fall, winter, and spring quarters may use earned credits for
both high school Carnegie units and postsecondary credit.
Under the Accel program, tuition and fees for classes taken
at North Georgia Technical College are paid for with funds
generated by the HOPE Scholarship Program. Students are required
to pay all other associated costs of attendance. HOPE
Scholarship payments made to students participating in the
Accel Program will be included in the maximum total number
of credit hours they can receive from the HOPE Scholarship
Program.
The admission
guidelines for the Accel program include the following:

Must have
completed his/her sophomore year in high school and
classified as a high school junior or senior.

Must
not have already received a high school diploma
or General Education Development (GED) diploma.

Must
complete regular admissions process and be program ready (no
developmental studies).

Submit an
application to the Admissions Office.

Have high
school counselor provide an official copy of high school
transcript in a sealed envelope.

Submit SAT
scores of at least 440 Math and 480 Verbal or meet program
requirements based on
North Georgia Technical
College's
placement examination.

Must
present a joint enrollment application and advisement form
signed by the applicant, his/her parents or guardian, and
the high school guidance counselor.

Students
earning a College Prep seal should have earned an overall
GPA of 3.0.

Students
earning a Career and Technical seal should have earned an
overall GPA of 3.2.
Dual Enrollment
The Dual Enrollment HOPE program is a collaborative effort
between the Georgia Department of Education (GDOE) and the
Georgia Department of Technical and Adult Education (GTCSG).
The purpose of the Dual Enrollment HOPE Program is to offer
additional educational opportunities for secondary students.
Students can earn credit both from high school and from a
technical college while they are still in high school. Dual
Enrollment classes can be offered at the high school or at
the technical college.
Dual Enrollment Student Requirements:
- Complete an application for admission to NGTC
- Provide copies of high school transcripts to NGTC
- Meet all technical college admission requirements for
the selected program of study (including the ASSET placement
test if applicable to the program)
- Complete a HOPE Grant Application
- Have parent or guardian sign an agreement to participate
Education and Career Partnership
Students enrolled in an Education and Career Partnership program at the secondary school level may be able to articulate credits to North Georgia Technical College.
- Secondary articulated credit will be transferred according to written agreements with secondary schools.
- Credit will be validated by holding it in escrow until the student has successfully completed one quarter in his/her program of study. Courses in degree programs which are articulated will require testing at NGTC before credit is awarded.
- Secondary credits from schools where there is no written agreement will be evaluated in terms of the specific curriculum using the statewide articulation guide.
- The determination will be made by the Director of Admissions, faculty, and/or Vice President of Academic Affairs.
No tuition will be charged for secondary articulated credit.
